Super-Cute Birthday Project Alert!

My Kiddo's teacher has a birthday coming up on Friday and I wanted to do a little something for her.  I instantly thought of cupcakes from my favorite place -The Sweetest Batch Cupcakery. But then, I wanted to incorporate something made by the Kiddo in the gift.  Of course, the handprint is a quick standby.  I then began thinking about making it into a cupcake and then VOILA! - an idea was born.  I got together with my "THINK TANK TEAM"  (they are going to be so mad that I described them with the word TANK!), and we all came up with several cute sayings to go with this idea.  We narrowed it down to: "YOU REALLY SPARKLE, HOPE YOUR BIRTHDAY IS AS BRIGHT AS YOU ARE".  Isn't that cute? So kudos to my girls Demetria, Kristin, Carrie, and Davina for helping me out.  I literally couldn't have done it with out you all!
I altered my original design for the FREE-PRINTABLE to accommodate larger hands and such. The image is 8x10 sized.  I would recommend doing the handprint on a separate piece of paper and then attaching it to the picture - unless your kid is ON THE MONEY when it comes to handprints.  Mine isn't and we needed several tries to get it right.  Although, I think it might look super-cute directly on the picture too!  I plan to give the photo in the frame. Frames instantly make artwork POP, especially if you have a mat.

To do this project, I basically just painted 4 fingers (you don't really need to do the entire hand unless you want to.)  Exclude the thumb, it's too short anyways. Also, the flames are a second job. They don't seem to look as great if you do them as part of the original handprint. So, just have your kiddo top them off with their index finger in orange or yellow paint. After doing the handprint, you can paint white stripes on your candle or further decorate it if you like.  I took some archival safe chalk and gave it a little more definition on the flames and chalked the edges of the "cupcake wrapper" and in each crease.

To make the "cupcake wrapper" I just cut out an appropriately-sized and shaped scrapbook paper and fan-folded it to give it some depth. I then just glued it over the handprint at the right spot.

This would be a great idea for a teacher gift or for a parent gift from kiddo via pre-school teacher. Make sense? Teachers- Just have all your parents give you their birthdays, and you can send home this cute little diddy with them and even add a more personal note! You could even give it with a box of cute candles to be lit later. I would not recommend lighting them while giving the gift.  That could get dangerous!
