Allergy Badge

A good friend of mine has a daughter with severe food allergies. We're not just talking a few either, she has several. Having just one food allergy puts a parent on alert, but multiple allergies can quickly send any parent into panic mode.  But my friend and her hubby do a great job managing things and making sure no cross-contamination happens at home and birthday parties (we have quite a few in our circle of friends)!  But, I know they still worry and I have always wanted to do something special for them. I toyed with the idea of doing an allergy shirt, but the list of allergies was so extensive and I felt it needed to be more practical than a shirt. I mean, you would either have to wear the same shirt every time or have multiples.  So I devised this plan, which was an offspring of my previous project involving Best Buy Badges. See The Post Here

Anyways, I got to thinking about all the applications an allergy badge could have. You could obviously wear it as a badge, print on sticker paper and have multiple stickers to wear on outings (or places like childcares and nurseries at church),  bagtags, or you could have little business cards made up for your kid ready to hand out to everyone that needs to know this precious information.

I designed these badges for the 8 most common food allergies, the reverse side has an info sheet to fill out with vital information about the child: name, allergies, parents, and contact info. I didn't want to put this part on the front, so people who weren't in the need to know category would not have access to your child's name so easily. You can never be too safe these days.

I think that the sticker idea is best for younger kids under 3, since the badge connector could possibly be a choking hazard and young kiddos like to rip stuff off.  I think the badge concept works best for older kiddos until they think it's uncool. The "business card" idea would be for the oldest group of kiddos still not capable of taking charge of their food allergy safety.

I also think this is a great gift idea for those with children with food allergies. Assemble a little gift assortment of badges and stickers like this one...
